The ArduCAM team has released a series of camera modules for the Raspberry Pi, including 5MP and 8MP modules. They are fully compatible with the official version and are divided into Standard Version, Optimised Optical Performance Version, Miniature Spy Camera Version, NoIR Version, Motorised IR Cut Version and Programmable Motorised Focus Camera Version. These camera modules support all Raspberry Pi models and require a 15-to-22 pin cable or adapter to work with the Pi Zero.

The product ArduCAM 5 MP CS Pi Cam is ei add-on camera module revision C. It is fully compatible with the official Raspberry Pi board. With the CS mount lens you can better focus and you have the possibility to change the lenses (telephoto, fisheye or other M12 lenses fit). The optical performance is thus optimized. The camera provides FREX and STROBE signals, they can be used with proper camera driver firmware to synchronize multiple cameras. The camera can be installed on Rasparian OS and the raspistill and raspivid terminal programs.

Connection to the Raspberry Pi is via one of the two sockets on the top of the board. This interface uses a dedicated CSI interface. This was developed especially for the connection of cameras. The CSI bus only transmits pixel data and is designed for extremely high data rates. The camera is supported by the latest version of Raspbian. It is connected to the BCM2835/BCM2836 processor via the CSI bus. This is a higher bandwidth connection that transfers pixel data from the camera back to the processor. The bus runs over the ribbon cable that connects the camera board to the Pi.
