Description

The Benewake VLS-H5 is a compact underwater LiDAR with 360° single-line scanning, specifically designed for use in swimming pools and similar underwater environments. By performing full 360° scans at 6 times per second, the VLS-H5 captures high-precision point cloud data of the pool walls. Combined with SLAM technology, it enables robots and other systems to quickly map the contours of the operating area – providing the foundation for mapping, localisation, and obstacle avoidance.

In clear water, the VLS-H5 achieves a detection range of over 5 metres, with a single scan covering more than 78 m² of pool area. Even in turbid water (NTU ≤ 4), an effective range of at least 1.5 metres is maintained. With algorithmic compensation, the device delivers accuracy better than 3 cm – ensuring precise localisation, stable movement, and drift-free operation.

The VLS-H5 features a combined hardware and software anti-ambient-light design that raises sunlight tolerance to 160 KLux, maintaining consistently high point cloud quality even in strongly lit outdoor pools. The compact enclosure (75 × 52 × 53 mm, 125 g) meets IPX8 protection and is rated for continuous operation at depths of up to 4 metres. Corrosion-resistant, scratch-resistant, and UV-resistant materials ensure long-term reliability in demanding environments.
