The ArduCAM team has released a series of camera modules for the Raspberry Pi, including 5MP and 8MP modules. They are fully compatible with the official version and are divided into Standard Version, Optimised Optical Performance Version, Miniature Spy Camera Version, NoIR Version, Motorised IR Cut Version and Programmable Motorised Focus Camera Version. These camera modules support all Raspberry Pi models and require a 15-to-22 pin cable or adapter to work with the Pi Zero.
The ArduCAM 5MP M12 Pi Cam module is a specially designed add-on. It lets you focus in the sharpest way possible. From less than 1 cm to infinity, you have the focus control. All you have to do is turn and adjust the lens and the locking ring.
It is connected to the Raspberry Pi via one of the two sockets on the top of the board. This CSI interface was developed especially for the connection of cameras. Designed for extremely high data rates, the CSI bus transmits pixel data only. The camera is connected to the BCM2835 processor via this CSI bus (a higher bandwidth connection that transfers pixel data from the camera back to the processor). The CSI bus runs along the ribbon cable.
The camera is supported by the latest version of Raspbian.
Applications can be found in the following areas: Cell phones, PDAs, toys, other battery powered products and where the official module does not have the desired focus and/or field of view.
