Description

Livox Avia 2 - 1535 nm Industrial LiDAR with Ultra-Long Range

The Livox Avia 2 is Livox's first industrial 1535 nm fibre-laser LiDAR and is aimed at applications requiring medium to very long detection ranges or a wide field of view - typically perimeter protection, early-warning systems and foreign-object intrusion detection in the energy, rail and security sectors. Compared to the predecessor Avia (range 190 m at 10 % reflectivity), the detection range is more than tripled.

The sensor operates in two switchable modes: a wide-FOV mode with 80° × 80° field of view and a minimum range of 500 m (at 10 % reflectivity), and a focus mode with 15° × 15° field of view and a minimum range of 650 m - power pylons and conductors can be detected at well over 1,000 m in focus mode. The particularly small spot diameter (approx. 2.5 cm at 100 m) allows fine structures such as steel cables, wire ropes or small objects (20 × 20 × 20 cm) to be imaged precisely even at long range.

The 1535 nm wavelength offers a significantly higher eye-safety margin and lower atmospheric scattering in rain, fog and snow compared to conventional 905 nm LiDAR. In combination with a highly sensitive receiver module, it can detect targets with very low reflectivity (below 10 %) - such as coal piles, fine gravel or wet surfaces - at distances beyond 300 m. The non-repetitive scan pattern produces an increasingly dense point cloud of static targets with longer integration times.

The Avia 2 is available in two variants: with active fan cooling for 24/7 continuous operation (rail, substations, security monitoring) and fan-less for camera-triggered, intermittent operation (typically in the energy sector). The housing is rated IP66, the fan IP55, with an operating temperature range of -20 to +65 °C.

Scope of Delivery

  • Livox Avia 2 LiDAR sensor (with or without fan, please specify at order)
  • Connection cable (1-to-3 harness, Avia 2-specific - not compatible with Mid-360 harness)
  • Mounting documentation and datasheet
  • Access to firmware, SDK, ROS driver, Livox Viewer 2 and 3D model

Important notes

  • At ambient temperatures above 50 °C, the fan-less variant should not be operated continuously for more than 5 minutes - discuss a cooling concept with the customer in advance.
  • In dusty or sandy environments, annual maintenance of the fan and air ducts is recommended.
  • The housing must not be removed - this would compromise the thermal design of the laser, APD and FPGA.
  • Hot-plugging the power supply is not supported.
  • The sensor must not be aimed directly through window glass at glass curtain walls or corner reflectors - this can damage the laser receiver.
