Description

The OpenMV GenX320 Camera Module is an event-based camera module built on the Prophesee GenX320 neuromorphic vision sensor. Unlike conventional frame-based cameras that capture entire images at fixed intervals, the GenX320 detects only changes in a scene – pixel by pixel, asynchronously and independently. This results in extremely low data rates even at high speeds, eliminates the need for background subtraction, and enables event histograms at over 375 Hz.

Inspired by the human retina, the sensor offers a dynamic range of up to 140 dB, making it reliable even in extreme lighting conditions – from near-total darkness (threshold 0.05 lux) to brightly lit scenes. Power consumption starts at just 3 mW during active streaming, making the sensor ideal for battery-powered applications. The module integrates seamlessly into the OpenMV IDE and is fully programmable in MicroPython.

Typical application areas include high-speed object tracking and counting, LED frequency detection in the kHz range, fluid and particle flow monitoring, and any scenario where traditional cameras are limited by motion blur, high power consumption, or insufficient dynamic range.
