The ArduCAM team has released a series of camera modules for the Raspberry Pi, including 5MP and 8MP modules. They are fully compatible with the official version and are divided into Standard Version, Optimized Optical Performance Version, Miniature Spy Camera Version, NoIR Version, Motorized IR Cut Version and Programmable Motorized Focus Camera Version. These camera modules support all Raspberry Pi models and require a 15-to-22 pin cable or adapter to work with the Pi Zero.
The board of the 5 MP Standard Pi Cam is very small (25mm x 24mm), which makes it very portable. A short ribbon cable connects it to the Raspberry Pi. The camera is connected to the BCM2835/BCM2836 processor on the Pi via the CSI bus. The pixel data is transferred with a higher bandwidth from the camera to the processor.
The sensor has a native resolution of 5 megapixels and a fixed focus lens. Images with 2592 x 1944 pixels can be captured by it and it supports 1080p30, 720p60 and 640x480p60/90 video
Connection is made via one of the two jacks on the top. This interface uses the CSI interface, which is specifically designed to connect to cameras.
Application in the fields of: Cell phones, PDAs, toys or other battery powered products. Also, it can be used in all Raspberry Pi platforms.
