Description

OnRobot Sander – electric random orbital sander for cobots

Sanding, polishing and deburring are jobs nobody does voluntarily: dust, constant vibration and results that vary with the operator's form on the day. The OnRobot Sander takes over exactly this step – as a ready-to-use tool on the robot flange, with its own software and integrated force control.

Unlike pneumatic sanders, the Sander is fully electric. This eliminates the compressed air supply along with the maintenance unit, hose package and the hissing in the workshop. The speed can be freely set between 1,000 and 10,000 rpm and is maintained along the entire path, even when the contact pressure changes. The result is a uniform surface instead of the typical pressure marks and shading of manual work.

Your benefits at a glance

  • No compressed air required: electric drive with 200 W – no compressor, no maintenance unit, no hose package on the arm
  • Integrated force control: the Sander detects dimensional deviations on the part and follows the contour instead of removing it
  • Programming without training: teach paths by hand guiding or define them via shapes and points, save positions directly on the tool
  • Quieter than expected: 74 dB at maximum speed, 44 dB at 3,000 rpm
  • Less dust: operation with 3M Clean Sanding discs and Hookit™ hook-and-loop attachment
  • Occupational safety: takes vibration exposure out of the operator's hands – a solid argument in any risk assessment
  • Brand-independent: approved for more than 17 robot brands, including Universal Robots, ABB, FANUC, KUKA, Yaskawa, Kawasaki and Denso
  • Expandable: the optional Grit Changer swaps sanding discs fully automatically, without anyone intervening

Typical applications

  • Sanding wood, plastic and composite surfaces before painting
  • Intermediate sanding and finishing in the painting process
  • Polishing metal and plastic parts
  • Deburring and post-processing cast parts and 3D-printed parts
  • Cleaning and roughening joining surfaces before bonding
  • Small and medium batch sizes with frequent product changes

Design note

With pad, the Sander weighs 1.2 kg – well within the payload of most cobots. What matters, however, is not the weight but the process force: the robot must apply the contact pressure continuously while holding the path.

Additionally required: Operation on the robot arm requires the OnRobot Robot Kit (Compute Box). It is not included with the Sander and contains:

  • 1× Compute Box
  • 1× tool connection cable, 5 m
  • 1× network cable
  • 1× power supply

Scope of delivery

  • 1× OnRobot Sander
  • 1× power supply
  • 1× tool power cable
  • 1× polishing pad
  • 2× sanding disc, grit 80
  • 1× sanding disc, grit 120
  • 1× sanding disc, grit 220
  • 1× sanding disc, grit 400
  • 1× pad wrench 24 mm

The Grit Changer for automatic disc changing is available as a separate accessory set and includes, among other things, a tool balancer, cable sleeve and extraction hose adapter. Force/torque sensor and robot-specific connection kit can be configured to match your platform.
