Description

The Protoneer RPi CNC Board is a small, but very powerful CNC-controller, which will be easy pluged into the Raspberry Pi General Purpose Input/Output pins. In combination with the DRV8825 stepper motor driver you are allowed to control your stepper motors with 1/32 Microsteps. Moreover if you would like to use more powerful stepper motor drivers, you can add the "Polulu Stecker und Jumper" to the order, which allows you to use external driver.

What can i control with the Raspberry Pi CNC Board?

The Protoneer RPi CNC Board was developed to control CNC and PCB milling maschines, but you are able to replace the pre-configured grbl Firmware with the ARDUINO IDE and the ISP Header of the board. So you have the opportunity to build a stepper motor based robot arm or simliar.

How can i connect the board to my milling maschine?

The connect the board to your milling maschine is really easy. You only have to plug in your stepper motor drivers, motors and the endstops to your board and afterwards you can start milling. A full guide is visible HERE.

How can i control my CNC or PCB milling maschine after wiring?

The free available pre-configured Raspberry Pi image has the really powerful controlling software implemented, called bCNC. With this software you can use many features, like the automatically probing, which is very important for milling PCB Boards.

What is the optional feature called "External Driver Board"?

This upgrade consist of a small red PCB, which is shown in the picture below. With these optional feature you are able to use external motor drivers to control stepper motors > Nema 17.

Board works perfectly with Grbl 1.1f preinstalled.

It is designed for a Pi 3, but I use it with a Pi 4. The only difference being the serial port used by Pi 4.
Pi 3 uses dev/ttyAMA0 as far as I understand. Pi 4 uses /dev/ttyS0.
Other than that is did not find a notable difference.

In use bCNC as g-code sender. bCNC does not recognise /dev/ttyS0.
Changing the serial port in the .bCNC config file (homedir) does the tric.

Sehr guter CNC Controller

Ich habe mit dem Board eine kleine CNC Fräse für den Modellbaubereich gebaut, und bin sehr zufrieden. Dank des zur Verfügung gestellten Raspberry Pi Images, war die Konfiguration binnen kürzester Zeit erledigt.

Ideal für meine Vorhaben

Die Stepper laufen wesentlich runder und leiser als mit meiner bisherigen Lösung. Zudem bleiben die vorhandenen Stepper (NEMA17) und Treiber (DRV8825) wesentlich kühler. Trotzdem bisher kein Schrittverlust.

Das Ganze bewegt eine Eigenbau-CNC, aufgebaut aus lauter Surplus-Teilen aus diversen Truckern. Genutzt. werden die Achsen XYZ, Spindel und Absaugung

Nun brauche ich noch ein passendes Gehäuse für die Kombination Raspberry Pi 3 und das CNC-Board. Dies als Anregung an den Shop.
